Séverin Guelpa: Trembling

An expansive multi-media project from S verin Guelpa that finds parallels between the rippling of geophysical events and societal changes.

S verin Guelpa, born in 1974, is one of the strongest voices in contemporary Swiss art. Based in Geneva, he works at the intersection of art, science, and the exploration of social phenomena. Guelpa examines how tremors--geophysical, social, or emotional--can become the driving force behind the development of new perspectives. Since 2022, he has been working on Trembling, a series in which he combines rough materials such as earth, stone, and concrete with media such as drawing, sculpture, video, and printing techniques to create powerful parables of a world in transition. His video Times Parallax takes a global look at the relationship between humans, technology, and nature.

S verin Guelpa: Trembling features striking sequences of images that guide readers through the artist's working environment, bringing his physical, site-related method to life. An essay by critic and curator Deborah Keller explores Guelpa's art. In conversation with curator and writer Dorothea Strauss, Guelpa addresses aspects such as responsibility, uncertainty, and the role of art in a shaken world.
