Severe malaria remains a real public health problem in Matadi in particular and in the DRC in general.A retrospective descriptive study of 200 children aged between 6 months and 5 years admitted to the paediatric ward for severe malaria was carried out at the Kinkanda/Matadi provincial referral hospital between January 2022 and December 2023.The figures relating to the frequency of the anaemic form and neuromalaria, as well as the mortality rate for severe malaria in children under 5 during this study period, show that malaria is still a public health problem despite the many efforts made, and highlight the scale of the problem, as well as its preventable nature, which calls on all those involved to take action to better adapt strategies to the local context in order to prevent avoidable deaths now and in the future.
