This scripture was written for our understanding and edification allowing us to examine the message to the seven churches in practical ways. What Christ was saying to these churches is profound but simple truth. When we do not attempt to read into these passages something that is not there we find a relevant truth for us today. Christ was speaking to churches at this point in history messages which can resonate with us today as much as they did to these seven congregations. These very real historical churches become perfect examples of those which have existed since the New Testament church was born until this very day. The actions and attitudes that were seen in the seven churches of Revelation can be observed in modern churches. It becomes obvious that God is speaking to types of churches and the spiritual battles found within them. He understands and exposes what motivates their heart. Each church is challenged in a very specific way. The Lord's intent is to help them realize who they have become and where they need to change.
