I really enjoyed this book. It help identify self-sabortage habits I had unknowingly developed with dating black men. Surprisingly, I became aware of the material value I was willing to endure to gain but yet paid a bigger price later down the road when the relationshp ended. It was sad yet healing to see and understand the cycle of emotional and psychoogical abuse from childhood events. The book was paper version of her radio show, which I listen to faithfully every Saturday. I am better equiped emotionally to see certain boobtrap and avoid them for healthier and peaceful person.

Relavent, important advice

I found the advice in this book to be extremely relevant and important. I am a woman of a certain age who has been dating on and off forever. The advice in this book summarizes what you already know, and offers insight into why certain patterns exist and how to break these old patterns. While I have owned the book for years, I re-read it recently and it was like a revelation. I am grateful for the advice provided in this book and I will highly recommend it to my younger family members and associates. Perhaps they can avoid, with the guidance of this book, many of the mistakes that I have made. Thanks, Audrey, for this book.
ESSENTIAL, SOUL-SEARING READING FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO CHANGE

Ms. Chapman, in her customary, down-to-earth, humorous style, breaks down the problems that have plagued Black men and women's relationships through the ages, how they have contributed to the deadly attitudes on both sides and how we can work on ourselves---and with each other--to overcome them. Throught lists, charts, statistics, exercises and the emphasis on personal empowerment, Ms. Chapman tells us both that ultimately, we BOTH have a lot of work to do, but that it is not impossible, and that we do need to step up to the plate for ourselves and for future generations. Yes, the title is a turn-off, but don't let that deter you from using the knowledge in this book to make your relationship w/ the opposite sex---and yourself---better than you imagined possible. Excellent, excellent book. Audrey is to be praised.
