Service learning for nutritional counseling of the elderly

This end-of-studies project (TFE) of the Master in Teacher Training of the UNIR develops a proposal with the Service Learning (ApS) methodology, which aims to teach contents about nutrition to students of Biology and Geology of 3rdESO. For this purpose, a guided counseling plan will be used with elderly people, with the aim of analyzing and improving their nutritional habits. This is a proposal of practical application that is mainly developed in the classroom, however, it has a part that is developed in geriatric centers or social canteens, that is to say, outside the center. Although there are numerous definitions for the broad concept of Service Learning (SL), it could be defined as a methodological technique that combines the learning of curricular content with community service. Its application allows students to put theory into practice by being protagonists and solving real problems in their environment, thus encouraging meaningful learning and motivation. In this way, the ApS has the double objective of forming students academically and civically.
