Each volume in this series of five, illustrates an array of approaches to examining a community issue and its hoped that, by exploring examples across the disciplines, faculty will be inspired to develop their own concepts for courses that combine academic and civic learning. Each volume of the series will focus on a specific social issue・gender and power, race and immigration, community health, and so forth・and then solicit contributions from faculty across disciplines who can provide insight into how they have motivated their students to engage in learning that extends beyond the boundaries of disciplinary goals.
