Book Overview

Sermon Notes of John Henry Cardinal Newman: 1849-1878 is a collection of notes taken by the author, John Henry Newman, during his sermons delivered between 1849 and 1878. Newman was a prominent figure in the Catholic Church in England during the 19th century, and his sermons were highly regarded for their intellectual depth and spiritual insight. The book contains over 200 sermons, each with a brief introduction by the editor, W. P. Neville, providing context for the sermon and its place in Newman's life and work. The sermons cover a wide range of topics, including the nature of sin, the role of the Church in society, and the importance of faith in daily life. The notes themselves are written in Newman's own hand, and provide a unique insight into his thought processes and preaching style. They are often fragmentary, with incomplete sentences and shorthand notations, but they offer a glimpse into the mind of one of the most influential religious figures of the 19th century. Overall, Sermon Notes of John Henry Cardinal Newman: 1849-1878 is a valuable resource for scholars of religious history, as well as anyone interested in the teachings of this important figure in the Catholic Church. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
