If you can pass the Practice Tests you will have no problem with the real test

If you study the material presented in this manual, and you can consistantly pass the practice tests, you will have no problem with the real test. This set not only teaches you the concepts needed to pass the exam, it also guides you on what types of questions you will actually see on the exam. The drill and practice CD is an invaluable tool to prepare with because it presents questions very similar to the type you will see on the actual test along with an instant explaination of the correct answer.

Excellent guide, but watch for mistakes

I purchased this guide with the test question CD. In general, the guide is very well written, and the test CD is excellent. Compared to the three other study guides I purchased, this guide has been the best. The text is relatively clear and concise, although in some cases I found the descriptions too brief. That's good if you're a trivia-sponge, but not so good if you need context and explanation to absorb a fact. Also, some pivotal facts are explained well, but not highlighted as pivotal. It can be hard to determine which pieces of data may help you correctly answer more than one test question, and which might be rarely tested. The guide is divided into units, and each starts with an overview page describing a chapter's difficulty and relative importance (number of test questions to expect). Another page describes knowledge objectives. Material sections are followed by short quizzes, although the answers to those are buried in later pages and hard to find quickly. Finally, the expected unit tests give you a feel for your progress. Most guides follow roughly this format, but this particular guide did a better job than others. I've recently downloaded an update guide that includes new regulatory information since 2005. This is a nice touch - none of the other guides I've purchased offer this. Of course, it was a little tricky to FIND this update, but I'm glad I have it. It's definitely an advantage other test-takers might not have. Unfortunately, the chapters aren't ordered by any discernable method - priority, relevance to other material, etc. I've found numerous points where important items were described LATER in the material. I've also found 4 test CD questions so far that were incorrect; even the rationales provided for the answers confirmed this. So far they've been fairly obvious, but they can be confusing when you first start out. (It's as if the database simply thinks answers C and D are reversed in some cases.) Overall, if you want to really KNOW all of this material, you'd probably be better off with a course rather than self-study guides. None of the items I've tried have done a good job of giving me all of the information I need, and I've had to weigh them against one another to round out the missing data. But this particular guide, and especially its CD, has been invaluable in the "pass the test" category. I'd definitely recommend it over some of the other options out there. One warning - GET THE CD. The guide is NOT worthless without it (some others are), but it's definitely far less valuable. There are several paper practice exams included with the guide itself, but there aren't nearly as many test questions offered. Since these test questions are usually drawn from actual S7 exams, every question you know ahead of time is an advantage. If you don't get the CD you're giving up a very valuable resource.

Comprehensive Review to Pass Test

This is an excellent book. I recommend completing the book in 25 days ~30 pages per day. Get the CD and do multiple 100+ questions test. Also, the audio CDs are excellent.Score: 92%

Very Good but Not the Best -

I have owned manuals from three of the top selling providers of Series 7 Exam study material. Dearborn's books are some of the best. The tone of the book is fairly conversational and engaging, but there is alot of material covered so its not exactly a "page turner". Its easy when studying for this exam to get overwhelmed, and this book isn't even the longest available. The best way to study for this exam is to read the book once and then hit the questions with a vengence. If you read the book once and then go through the full test 15 times you will pass on your first attempt, just make sure that you are learning the answers to the quiz and test questions and not simply recognizing them from past attempts. I would say if you need to get the test done quickly this book is great but Dearborn also has a multimedia CD-Rom that is truly fantastic. The audio coaches on the CD point out different areas of study to pay particular attention too as well as giving you a break from alot of what most people will consider fairly dry reading. If you want a even denser source of information than Dearborns then the only choice is the study materials from Securities Training Corp. There is a fair bit more material covered and the sample exams are even harder than the real thing. You will score well on the exams if you use and absorb the STC material.Pass Perfect is another provider and I would say while the easiest to read and the most conversational it also covers the least amount of info of the three and while you can certainly pass with it, you are taking a greater risk. Not to give Pass Perfect a hard time, if you just want to pass and be done with it then they are a good choice. In the end almost all the available study materials from all the different providers (except ARCO) will get the job done, it really depends on your personal preference and how much detail you want to deal with.

Good Book but Buy the 11th Edition

I pass with a 87% on the Series 7 Exam. This is how I did it.1. Read this book once. Then read over again the chapters on Municipal Securities and Options. You will need to know these chapters inside and out.2. Then do the practice test. Do everyone one of the practice test. Again and Again. The Exam is exactly like the practice test.3. Buy the 11th Edition. The CDROM alone is worth the price. If you do these 3 steps you will pass. GUARANTEE.
