After months of searching for the man behind the apocalypse, Dan Metzger finally receives answers. He learns of a new threat, realizing the initial attacks were only the first phase in a grander scheme. An unearthed journal reveals the means to create the apocalypse were created decades earlier. Military personnel confronted the undead overseas, forced to keep their secret to themselves.

Desperate to return to Virginia, Metzger knows he must warn the military and his family, knowing military leaders might imprison him because of his immunity to the plague.

Left with strangers in Virginia, the rest of Metzger's group must fight for their lives when something leads hundreds of undead to their village. Battling for their lives, and the approval of the community's unofficial mayor, they lose a number of people before realizing they're hopelessly trapped. Only a small miracle, or Metzger's return, might save them from the perilous predicament.
