He finds a very different Peru from the one he left with a government recovering from a bloody civil ar against Sendero Luminoso rebels and in the midst of a the Japanese Hostage Crisis. There he meets Maria, the widow of his lawyer friend and puts him on a path of rediscovery of his past errors and future possibilities.
