Yeats is one of the unquestionably great modern poets

Yeats is one of the unquestionably great modern poets. His poetry has a rich lyrical beauty, and a mystery of myth. His memorable lines lighten all the anthologies of English poetry. Whether he is 'lying down where all the ladders start/ in the foul rag and bone shop of the heart' 'or whether he is defining the moral torpor of the age ' the best lack all conviction and the worst are full of passionate intensity' or whether simply singing love lyrically ' And we will wander hand in hand/ through hollow lands and hilly lands/ and pluck till time and times are done/ the silver apples of the moon/ the golden apples of the sun/ he is overwhelming the reader with lines of incredible beauty. His personal mythology vanity and story may not thrill, but his poetry invariably does.
