This is the first of three books in my non-fictional account of serving in the U.S. Navy as an alcoholic lesbian. It was the 1970s and homosexuality was strictly prohibited in Uncle Sam's military. Join me on my alcohol fueled journey of self-discovery and awakening sexuality. I thought I'd found my calling after completing Navy boot camp in Orlando, Florida and communications training in Bainbridge, Maryland. But then, on the island of Okinawa, I discovered some of my shipmates weren't as polished and spit-shined on the inside as they looked on the outside. I encountered, and can tell you that the social issues of sexism, human trafficking, substance abuse, abortion and suicide were alive and well throughout the U.S. military in the 70s. You may find our journey happy, sad, sometimes humorous, and sometimes unsettling. But overall, I think you'll find that your journey with me is unforgettable.
