Uplifting and Inspirational!

Gail McKenna has devoted much of her life to prison ministry and details it beautifully in this easy-to-read yet thought-provoking book. Particularly interesting is the way she relates the personal stories of female inmates -- their struggles with their pasts, their efforts to right their lives, and ultimately their acceptance of God into their lives. McKenna's book peeks behind the prison bars and gives an inspirational look at women long ago forgotten about by society. I'm certainly glad that Gail McKenna hasn't forgotten about them. You will be energized and uplifted after reading this book.

Testimonies of Women Finding Faith While Serving Time in Jail

"Seeking God While Serving Time" is a book filled with miraculous stories of how women in jail are finding faith while running from God, from self, and facing related struggles. Author and lecturer Gail Thomas McKenna shares stories from the lives of those she has ministered in a volunteer ministry meeting the spiritual needs of inmates in county jail. In a chapter entitled "A Day in the Life of an Inmate McKenna covered a typical inmate's day from the wake up call at 4:30 AM on through to lights out at 11 PM. The days are filled with opportunities for enrichment programs, a program which includes family visitation privileges, personal time for correspondence, reading, study, and free time for card games, viewing TV, or for group Bible studies. McKenna's faith based volunteer program included visitation, Bible studies, and worship. Volunteers have opportunities for one on one contact, as participation in chapel services, and Bible studies. "Seeking God While Serving Time" is an exceptional source of information for anyone thinking about a jail or prison ministry with women. Actually the principles are equally applicable to ministry with men or for teens who are in Juvenile detention centers. McKenna's writing is significant and challenging. In addtion to those already involved, McKenna also offers a convincing challenge for others to join in this ministry, a ministry mandated by the Lord Himself when He invited us all to "visit those in prison."
