Once surrounded by the peaceful, lush landscape of rural Rwanda, Augustin's family lived a content, comfortable life. But at just seven years old, everything changed in a single, shocking moment. Forced to flee on foot, Augustin and his family struggled to carry their few belongings and find safety in a new location. The journey took them across three countries, each step bringing them farther from the life they once knew. Unfortunately, the horrors of war followed Augustin and his family, continuing long after the 100 days of the Rwandan Genocide. He and countless others were forced to navigate the thick jungles of Zaire, living in multiple refugee camps along the way. The innocent victims of this tragedy, included mothers, children, husbands, hardworking, and generous neighbors who suffered unimaginably for years. Augustin shares the raw honesty of what he witnessed during those dark days, as the miserable reality of his struggle for survival continued until he reached an unexpected destination.
