An infant child living with residual polio in a cloistered (sheltered) life was selected to be given research therapy. This post-polio program was picked by the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth KS to see if polio wracked individuals could be rehabilitated to become self-sufficient enough to live, at best a normal life. After years of this "sheltered life", the author began survival training at 5-1/2 years. Moved to a hospital school for an education and more physical therapy. The move for which the author was totally unprepared, for the next 4 years, life was at time humorous or ho-hum, and at times perilously close to tragic.
