Very Good, but very repetitive

I would like to warn that there is a lot of domestic violence in this book so if you're triggered by that, avoid this one. Otherwise I really enjoy the writing style of this author, this book gives a good view of just how scary the Tudor court could really be. No one is safe. One minute you're in favor, then you're gone. Usually any Tudor book I read is from the queens' or king's view. It's refreshing to read something from the courtier's view. My one personal complaint is the amount that the main character cries. You can't go two pages without her crying, it gets a little wearying.

I got this from my husband for my birthday but I usually choose Phillipa Gregory books. I am glad he went outside the box with this purchase, I loved the story and bought two other books by this author as a result of reading it.

very interesting

Loved it

I just loved this book, it was a wonderful look into the Tudor Courts. I have read many books on the subject of Henry VIII but this one put it all together in one place and made it a lively read. Kudos

A Fresh New Face in Fiction!

I have been following the Tudors on HBO and was interested in this age of History. I've done some research on my own now and have found that the books are much more accurate then the HBO series. Diane Haeger, Jean Plaidy, Alison Weir, Barbara Kyle and Robin Maxwell's work have given me some great insight. After reading this book I have found a new twist and a fresh new writing style. This author is new to the market and shed wholesome new looks to the era. This is a book that I couldn't put down. It was a beautifully written story, a good addition to this genre. There is not much historical documentation for the young Mary Howard and the author did a wonderful job filling in the gaps to create this entertaining story. I have read some of the previous reviews and felt some to be just outright cruel and unfair. I'm so glad that I wasn't taken in by the negative images projected. This author has done an excellent job researching and storytelling. When true historical facts are needed, she hit the mark. When story telling was needed, she entertained me. I found this book to be well written with a refreshing style. If you are looking for facts then you need to look in the non-fiction department. I was truly entertained and enjoyed this book. D.L. Bogdan...you have a promising career and I'm sure to pick up any future books!

Read this book!

I absolutely adored this book. I've never been interested in facts and history, always having preferred fiction (fantasy, Sci-Fi, etc.). But when I read this book, it was as if I was transported right next to Mary Howard as she told her story. It was interesting and I ended up reading it all in one day. I was riveted. D.L. Bogdan tells the story beautifully and precisely that a movie may as well have been playing in my head. Kudos to the author for creating such a wonderful work! I can't wait for the next one.

A skillful Tale

Unlike everyone else, I LOVED this book. While it was mostly fiction, It had the basic facts in it and I am glad that I read it. That whole time period is interesting to me. I read it in about 6 hours, and could not put it down. She gives so much depth to these historial people. I enjoyed it very much and suggest you read it.
