Perry Wood's: Secrets of the People Whisperer - A Horse Whisperer's Techniques for Enhancing Communication and Building Relationships By Bruce Ervin Wood Perry Wood (no relation) won international acclaim as The Horse Whisperer, the person on whom the film of the same name was based. I didn't realize until browsing the book, that he is also an acclaimed leadership coach. The weaving of his insights into people and stories of horses made for an intriguing read. His description of fully present listening (shown below) impressed with its poetry and simple clarity, and may remind coaches of the power in that unique space. "Holding the space means you listen to someone by being totally present; it means giving them your heart, love and full attention. This allows them all the room they need to express themselves. You stay in a peaceful state and create stillness around you and allow the other person to express whatever they wish to express, or say whatever they need to say. You don't analyze, judge or try to find solutions. When you hold the space you really do listen to the whole of them with the whole of you, which means you listen to their energy and essence, as well as to the words they use."
