Secrets of the Kuji

This is a complete reprint and English translation of Secrets of Kuji, an illustrated guide to the esoteric practice known as Kuji, or the "Nine Seals." Originally published in 1787, the book begins with an account of the origins of Kuji before explaining its various applications, including rituals intended to ward off evil, cure illnesses, protect the practitioner, and bring harm or misfortune upon enemies.

The author was a practitioner of Kaga-Iga Ryu Ninpo 加賀伊賀流忍法, a school of Ninjutsu that combined the traditions of the Iga School with martial and esoteric practices associated with the Kaga Domain.

Reproduced in its entirety, this edition includes the original illustrations together with a complete English translation, offering a rare look at the magical, religious, and practical traditions associated with Kuji in late Edo-period Japan.
