A good book but it felt like a middle Book

“Secrets of Grady is the second book in the Grady Lake Mystery Series by J.L. Hyde. This book was published in February 2024. Let me give you a brief overview, though I might reveal some very minor spoilers. If you plan to read the first book and haven’t yet, now’s the time to skip ahead. Now, let’s dive into the aftermath of Grady. We’re talking about a small town with missing girls who have suddenly reappeared. This turn of events leaves us with numerous questions. How were they raised? Who were the suspects involved? For years, Grady Lake has concealed its secrets, protecting the monsters living among them. As bodies start to pile up, the question becomes: should these secrets die with the culprits, or is it time for the truth to finally come out?” Rating: 3.9/5 1. **Plot and Storytelling** 3/5 I enjoyed the plot of this book. I've come to know these characters and enjoy their lives, and seeing the aftermath of everything that went down was unique. However, most of it felt like a middle, kind of filler-y book. What won a higher score for me was the way the story takes you back in time, revealing more about the original events and uncovering new secrets. This aspect kept me intrigued and engaged. 2. **Characterization** 4/5 The characters are believable and consistent with the previous story. They have flaws and strengths, get frustrated, feel happy, and celebrate. Not everyone feels the same way about everything, which adds depth. Additionally, you see growth throughout the novel. Given the circumstances, this development was expected but still gratifying to witness. 3. **Writing style** 5/5 I love J.L. Hyde’s writing; to be honest, at this point, she could write a menu and I would read it. Her style is engaging, well-written, and well-paced. She doesn’t reveal twists too early, and overall, I just love seeing how she is developing as an author over time. 4. **Originality** 3.5/5 For originality, I want to give it a four out of five, but I have to settle closer to three and a half. There's not a lot of plot progression; much of the book focuses on the aftermath and the discovery of past events, with limited forward movement for the characters' stories.
