Effective in learning how to be a Great Leader
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 19 years ago
This book was excellent. The one really important aspect of this book that I enjoyed the most was the easy to read and understand format, but also that he stressed his points using many life experiences of his own. I find that when a real life experience is used to enforce a point that I am able to remember the point that much easier. I did not just learn how to be an effective leader, but I also learned how to deal with situations of my life that do not necessarily apply to leadership such as stress and healthy living. Another important that Manske Jr. did was to use quotations from people who are important AND unimportant in order to show greatness. He also showed his points through use of very important people such as Presidents and Owners of companies. When I started reading the book, I had not realized how complicated being a leader was, I never really thought about it, and even though he acknowledges that leading is not an easy task, he makes it seem as though if anyone put their mind to it, they can be a leader. For instance I had never thought that courage is important in leading others. And although I knew it in the back of my mind, I did not think about how one has to deal with the fact that they will not win all of their people over, some may dislike them. One final aspect that I liked was the fact that he can speak from experience as anyone who reads this book will know, for he has experienced many instances on learning how to lead. He did not act like he was a leader from the beginning or that he was a perfect leader. He stressed that leaders make mistakes, all people do, but to learn from them is key to leading effectively. There are two negatives that I find in this book. The first one being that he does not offer how to deal with people who dislike you just because they do. I found that this would be very helpful to people who yearn to lead, but do not know how to deal with these people. The only other negative thing I find, is that Manske Jr. stresses Christianity. I found this as wrong because there are many people in the world who have different religions and many do not believe in god. Although this was negative I find that stressing a higher power was important, because we are not the highest power in the world. Excellent read, I would recommend this book to anyone even if they do not want to lead, because it will help you deal with a leader as well in a more positive way.

I worked with Fred Manske for 5 years, and can attest that he knows from whence he speaks. His advice is both practical and reality based. Bur the book, read it, and heed it!Bill Catlette author, Contented Cows
