I read parts of this book with my mouth hanging open. I don't know how the author does it, but he pulls gut-wrenching revelations and ground-breaking transparency from some of the best-loved Christian authors and speakers. I was moved and encouraged by what I read. As I read about the struggles and shortcomings of these well-known folks, I felt a lot less alone in my own struggles and shortcomings. Larry Crabb's honest comments about crises in faith and relationships were particularly moving (I read his sections twice). And in the process, I was filled with incredible gratitude toward the merciful God whose love for us never wavers despite our doubts, wounds and mistakes. As the children's Sunday school chorus says, we are weak indeed, but He is strong. Coppernoll and the folks he interviewed broke new ground with the level of vulnerability in these pages. I found honesty reflected there, and plenty of hope as well. As far as the title, I think it's really effective--after all, we're all looking for secrets that can help us in our lives and faith. However, it does beg the question: Can any of us really claim a faith well-lived? Or are we all, as the stories within suggest, veteran stumblers who are loved fiercely by a God who embraces, empowers and enlists us in His service, skinned knees and all? If you're like me, somewhere between the covers of this book you'll catch glimpses of your own soul. You'll find company and kinship, but you'll also find wisdom and guidance. It's a powerful combination. Kudos to Coppernoll and the men and women whose hearts and stories are reflected in the pages of this book.
