Book Overview

From national bestselling author Rochelle Alers comes the powerful story of one woman and the secrets that will forever alter her vision of her family, her marriage, and herself. In one night, Morgana Johnson-Wells takes two hard hits: first, news that her mother has died, then evidence that her husband is having an affair. Fleeing Baltimore to tend to her mother's estate in Salvation, Georgia, Morgana finds comfort in the company of her Uncle Julian and in the diaries her mother left hidden in the attic. Shocked by her mother's most private thoughts and confused about both her illusions of her own childhood and the fate of her marriage, Morgana is drawn to local artist Erick Wilson, with whom she shares the kind of intimacy she and her husband have lost along the way. The connection grows deep, and by the time all of her mother's secrets are revealed, Morgana has a few secrets of her own...secrets of the heart, mind, and body that need never be told.

This One is Good

I really enjoyed this author work on betrayal, marriage and infidelity. She takes us on a journey of what happens when Morgana starts to read her mother's diary and all the secrets seem to seep out. The secrets that were never told showcases the truth and allows Morgana to reflect on her own life and destiny. However, this story is really about Wealth and Colorism. You will find many parallels about both subject in each character. There is the subject of Wealth and Colorism that guides Katherine and her family. Also there is Wealth and Colorism in Randall decision to marry and keep Katherine. He believed that his life would change once he married a woman with light skin and good hair. There is Wealth and Colorism in Franklin decision to marry Morgana so he would not be reminded of his poor beginnings and his belief that marrying a woman with light skin would help his career flourish. There is also Colorism involved in Franklin not wanting his daughter, Sandra to marry her white boyfriend, Kenneth. There is also Wealth and Colorism in Erick decision to get involved with Morgana. If she was not wealthy and fair skinned, this would not have occurred. I did not think Morgana and Erick affair was very realistic and it's part of the story that I did not like. I hope readers will explore this and review my comments so they can see how the story really brings this focus.

A WORK OF ART

Once again, this was another page turner by Rochelle. This was a story well written and quite captivating. From the moment I started reading, I couldn't put the book down. What I found most interesting was Katherine's Journal. Also, the way the story ended kind of left somethings to the reader's imagination. Especially Uncle Julian's so called secret. For a moment I was hoping for a sequel. I immediately changed my mind and felt that the book lived well up to it's title. End of story.

I Loved This Book!

I loved this story. Secrets Never Told is one of the most wonderful stories that I have ever read. It's filled with intriguing characters that are so real, they walk right off the page and into your heart. You can't forget them. The plot flowed in a unique and exciting manner that kept me turning the pages. And then I was always greeted with a surprise or twist. Reading this outstanding novel is like watching a movie. You can't wait to see what happens next.Morgana was an unforgettable heroine, as was her mother, Katherine. I feel like I know them both so well. Uncle Julian stole my heart, too, reminding me of one of my uncles. If you want to read a GOOD book, read this one by the super-talented, Rochelle Alers!

Excellent

Rochelle Alers has done it again. This was a fantastic read. The story was well developed, The characters made you wonder and made you care. And I can not wait for this authors next book.

Excellent book! A must read!

This was an excellent book! I hated to see it end. Ms. Alers has done it again. This was a very believable story and it makes you wonder what kind of "secrets never told" are in your family history. This book also makes you realize that no one, no situation is perfect, and that in the blink of an eye, your world can come crashing down. It also teaches you that you don't have to let situations dictate the rest of your life. Morgana could've bemoaned her fate, and let it affect her life in a negative manner, but she didn't. She grieved, she suffered, she grew, she forgave, and she moved on. I highly recommend this book to current Rochelle Alers fans, and to those who have never read any of her work, pick up this book. It's a great read! Kudos Ms. Alers on another outstanding novel.

Awesome

I simply loved this book, classic Alers. Morgana's world is tilted in one day, making her realize that all is not perfect in her world. The death of her mother takes her to her childhood home where she works through problems in her marriage and discovers through her mother's journals, what type of life she really lived. Morgana finds the strength to look beyond the surface and rediscovers who she really is and who her mother was. Bravo Ms. Alers, this is a must read, that should be read at least twice.
