A Series of Early Talks on the Fourth Way by E J Gold
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 17 years ago
This is one of my more favorite books by the author because he outlines his core ideas very well. These are the ideas that he develops in his other writings. They are presented in a fairly informal series of talks which sometimes digress into interesting side topics. I feel that E J Gold picks up somewhere where Gurdjieff and Ouspensky left off. The Gurdjieff idea of "being duty" is developed more in the writings of E J Gold and is presented here. I think this is a key idea, because "self remembering", the main meditation method mentioned in the writings of Ouspensky is hard to do when you try to do it directly. It is hard to sustain, but if you commit to being duty something generates more easily inside oneself. The reservation about this book is that same for many of the writings of E J Gold. I feel that they require some familiarity with the basic ideas of the 4th way and even of the Sufi path to be fully appreciated. I think otherwise that something will be missed. Having said that, it is also nice that there are some advanced books out there that do not merely rehash the earlier themes, but instead build on them.
