Second Helpings

By: Bahrami, Reza

On St. Patrick's Day, 68-year-old billionaire Cyrus Kane walks away from his empire and into the freezing Chicago River. Pulled from the dark water by Sonny Buck, a young food-truck cook, Kane finds himself living anonymously in "The Yard"-a bustling food lot hidden under the highway.

Trading his boardrooms for a cramped kitchen, Kane begins to learn the rhythm of a new life. As he struggles to master the flat-top grill and cook short ribs in a legendary sixty-quart pot, a profound connection forms among the trucks. Second Helpings is a warm, wide-awake novel about a city, the families we choose, and the ledger of kindnesses nobody ever writes down.
