It hasn't always been an abandoned path for eighteen-year-old Mason Fitzgerald. Before being labeled as an outsider, he first enjoyed his fair share of status among his classmates. As the lead singer and guitarist for an up-and-coming local band, gaining recognition from all the right people, Mason's future was coming along just as planned. That is until everything changed with his now ex-girlfriend from a rival school. The only comfort Mason now has from their past relationship is the very thing that frightens him most and confirms just how detached he might actually be from everything and everyone around. At first, his withdraw raises little concern from anyone other than his two closest friends and band members, especially since they are the only ones who know what really happened. But Eva, an implausible intruder, soon forces her presence into his isolated refuge. As her curiosity grows, stemmed from the little black notebook in which he writes all his new lyrics, they cultivate a strange friendship and dependency. Along the way, he finds the words he's been lacking to write his next song.
