This is the first enchanting new tarot from the bestselling Seasons of the Witch series Lorriane Anderson dives into the wintery wisdom of Yule and Imbolc, embracing a time of rest and reflection. Richly illustrated by Tijana Lukovic, this is the beginning of a captivating new tarot series, designed to guide you through the depths of winter and illuminate your spiritual journey. The booklet includes a foreword by bestselling author Juliet Diaz. Where one journey ends, a new one begins and the wheel turns yet again . . .The bestselling Seasons of the Witch series continues its odyssey, this time unveiling a beautiful, brand new series featuring the four seasons: spring, summer, fall and winter. We begin our adventure with the Winter Tarot, where familiar elements of the tried and true Rider-Waite Smith system are reimagined in an evocative story of festive maidens, snowy creatures and frosty potions; brews and magical tools. Seventy-eight cards unearth wintry themes of rest, reflection and - of course - the sabbats too. Explore how the harmonic relationship between Yule, Imbolc and the earth's barest season seamlessly blend to unlock deep, divinatory wisdom, all while embracing a new way for the tarot to shift its energy throughout the year.
Having read through the guidebook, I am very excited to further work with this deck! The illustrations are, of course, perfection - thank you for keeping the illustrator from the oracle deck series! The tarot itself feels very natural to me - by that I mean the storyline throughout, the interpretations - which reference numerology as well as classic RWS meanings as well as providing meanings relevant & relatable to modern experiences - this deck feels like I don’t need to translate it in order for me to apply the meanings to my reading. While I don’t always agree with the card interpretations, I find them interesting and provocative in the sense that they inspire me to think more deeply about each meaning, and just as importantly, about the ‘why’ behind the meaning she chose. I can’t say I’ve experienced this in a tarot deck before. I’m very excited to explore and use the spreads, combine with the oracles, and just spend good time with this deck.
The only nitpicks I have thus far is the word “winter” in nearly every title, it begins to feel redundant after awhile, and I wonder why it’s necessary - I assume there’s a reason, I just don’t see one. Also, don’t love the metallic edging. I’m not a fan of this on decks in general, but it’s consistent with the Oracle deck series which is nice, but I would much rather have had matte edges. I have small hands and stubby fingers, it’s my experience the metallic edging makes the cards a bit more rigid and harder to shuffle. Plus they always chip anyway. But I survived it on the Oracle series, which were larger in size, so I’m sure I’ll survive it now. It certainly won’t stop me from using the deck! Looking forward to three more seasons already!
