Thought provoking, unpredictable and controversial, Searching for Us is an unorthodox collection of short stories and poetry. The short stories (80% of the book) contain many Twilight Zone like tales. While most of the stories are travel-related, is the reader taken on a journey of geography or a pilgrimage of the mind? The diversity of topics include: travels across America, war crimes, romance, global warming, the Holocaust, tales of the Old West, religious fanaticism, the Great Depression, extinction, white supremacy and genocide, to name but a few. A recurring theme is the examination of the human psyche, with all of its contradictions, entanglements, evil and virtue, fear and triumph. Some chapters are light-hearted, a few are disturbing. Portions of the narrative are written through the eyes of an innocent child, others from the perspective of a cynical adult. One chapter will make you laugh while the next invokes soul-searching.
