Richard Kinsman, the author, retired from the CIA in 1995 after a 35 year career. He is a graduate of Syracuse University, and the National War College in Washington, D.C. With wife Sheila, they have 3 children and eight grandchildren. Richard met Dot Lemon in Venezuela while assigned to the US Embassy in Caracas from 1971-1973. It was some 33 years later, while on a contract overseas assignment, that he accidentally renewed his acquaintance with Dot Lemon, who died in 1986. The tortuous trail leading to discovery of her fascinating and often mysterious life has proven both challenging and rewarding, once again showing a life story more revealing than fiction. Dot Lemon deserves recognition as among the outstanding women characters and aviators of the 20th century, perhaps the original "LEAN IN" lady.
