What will Ripley's come up with next?

I have been a fan of Ripley's Believe It or Not! for over 60 years and look forward to each new publication from this wonderful organization. There have been many others ,over the years,who have put out somewhat similar publications of Strange,Unbelievable,Amazing,etc.,books;but none have been been better or have lasted so long.I have a large number of Ripley books in my collection,and continually add to it whenever new ones come out. I have written several reviews on them.If you really want to read something different;I strongly suggest you find "Ripley,The Modern Marco Polo" -The Life and Times of the Creator of "Believe It or Not' by Bob Considine.It was published in 1961.He was the author of "MacArthur the Magnificent","Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo","The Babe Ruth Story" and many more.He was a nationally syndicated columnist and widely known radio commentator,and won many awards for his outstanding journalism.He and Ripley were great friends . This Ripley book almost escaped me because it was in the juvenile section of the bookstore.While it is in a format that would attract the younger folk,it is of interest to any Ripley fan. It is really a journal of one of Ripleys "Around The World" trips .I believe ,but not certain it was his first and though the Month and date of his stops and entries are shown,I don't see any year given.However there is a letter in an envelope dated January 17,1934,from his Publisher authorizing Ripley to take this trip at their expense ,and to book the trip today and get going.Therefore ,one must suppose that this trip took place in 1934. The book is large at,11.5 X 9.8 X 1.2 inches.Although described as 32PP,it is made up of heavy panels with loads of photos and illustrations.There are also many,many separately attached items,removable "keepsakes",pull-tabs,and all sorts of items to "handle".Yes! there is even a shrunken head with "real Hair".One packet,tied with a ribbon even gives you 6 shrunken heads ,and Believe It or Not, instructions on how to make them.There is a Pop-Up of the Pagoda in Burma ,built at the cost of 20 Million dollars to house 3 hairs from the head of Buddha.A great folding representation of the coffins of Tutankhamun,all sorts of mathematical diagrams and curios,and on the lst page,an interesting full-page rotating,DISK .O . KNOWLEDGE ,with all sorts if interesting facts. As a long time fan of Ripley's ,it was nice to see some of the old "cartoons"I remembered from many years ago.There is the Merman of Eden that PT Barnum exhibited for years claiming as a "Mermaid",the "endless stream of "Marching Chinese" that graced the cover of his first book,and one of my favorites.There's "The Lighthouse Man" from China who walked the streets at night with a burning candle in a hole in his head,and many more. Overall ,a very different type of Ripley book,and one one to amuse young and old alike.

A Collection of Curious and Divers Things

Before the ever present "factual" photograph there was the artistic illustration. Ripley's art was genius and inspired and told more about the mystery of life than a mere photo could. This book evokes the last age of adventure and unknown. This is Ripley at it's best!
