This book has nearly all the Seals and Crofts songs from their many albums, not just the well known hits. The music is printed on an off white, almost tan colored paper with a faux crumbled paper look at the edges. The print is more brown than black too — all of this to me makes it more difficult to see the music clearly. The arrangements are well done. It is not easy to capture the essence of their complex guitar/mandolin playing but I think this book manages it pretty well. There is a piano part with a vocal line on top — and the vocal melody is not duplicated in the piano part. Your singer needs to be confident and independent or they will struggle. Also the vocal line has just the main melody; it does not include any of the harmonies you hear the guys sing on their albums.
If you are a pianist looking to play these songs by yourself for your own enjoyment you will need to pick out those melodies or you will only have the underlying chords etc. Chord symbols are of course included above the parts, in the standard way. These arrangements are definitely intermediate level and some are advanced. There are time signatures such as 12/8 and 7/8. Because their music is so interesting you will encounter complex chords, many ledger lines, challenging key signatures, etc. These are all good things in my opinion because this collection captures the spirit and sound of the original versions (as much as possible given the parameters and limitations of piano imitating guitars/mandolins).
The index is alphabetical and is located in the front of the book. It is quite thick and has over 400 pages.
Seals and Crofts collections and their greatest hits seem to be rare in piano or piano/vocal books. Prices for this book can be quite high but in my opinion I think this is worth it.
