'Sea Water And Sand' is an enthralling, passionate, and intriguing outpouring in poetry that has left me spellbound at the depth of expression and imagery. It was with the utmost pleasure that I was drawn into a world that has been influenced by decades of cultural escapades and exploits of two Barbadians whose ethos has been engendered by the culture of the north of the island paradise, Barbados. Shaped by rural patrimony but unsheltered, the brothers Carol 'Antarrah' Gilkes and Frank Gilkes, have been able to demonstrate a profound understanding of life in this modern age. The poems have captivated me with a range of emotions and I highly recommend that you share this experience! Wendell C C Callender, author, educator, lyricist, and Barbadian nationalist
A brilliant poetic historical document of being bajan from emancipation to republic
Published by Winston Gibbons , 3 years ago
I like this book because it takes you down memory lane, it uses and plays with your imagination while also being a documentary of the life and times of Bajan close knit society surrounded by seawater and sand.
Anyone who has an interest in the evolution of the Bajan psyche through the political, socioeconomic and digital ages from emancipation, Independence and now Republic, will be able discerns the influences, and their effects on future generations.
The Poets, Carl "Antarra" Gilkes and Frank Gilkes were brilliant enough to make this book easy to read if one is only interested in simple poetry of a Barbadian Historical nature. Once you start to read you will not want to put it down.
