Scripture Memorization for Youth highlights the importance of memorizing scripture for the New Evangelization. The identity crisis that wide swaths of the population suffer with in 2025 is correlated to a lack of a memory of the Word of God. Even as late as the mid-20th century, Scripture memorization played a central role in the education of our children in the home, school, and ecclesial setting. Today, it has been gradually rooted out of our collective memory, and very few Catholics are taught to memorize Scripture when they are young. Truly, the prophesy of Amos has been fulfilled: "'Behold, the days are coming, ' declares the Lord God, 'when I will send a famine on the land-not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD'" (Amos 8:11). Scripture Memorization for Youth will examine the history of Scripture memorization in the United States, and why we need to reintroduce our youth to Scripture memorization. It will provide examples of the importance of Scripture memorization in the Bible -- both in the Old and New Testaments. It will conclude with a program proposal that you can implement at home, in your parish, and/or school.
