Scripts is the story of Arlene Zirner, a young woman in the 1950s of an obscure and unusual background; she has, from her mother, absorbed something of an unusual worldview. Arlene endures a dreadful marriage and discovers within herself a talent and a thriving passion that she did not know could exist, owing to a chance encounter in a park. The exercise of this talent leads to a transformation, leading her out of her uncritical acceptance of her usual world into a new understanding and a liberation. Along the way, an intimately related love story develops-but by no means a traditional romance.
