Book Overview

Step into the misty glens, ancient castles, and windswept moors of Scotland-where the veil between the living and the dead is whisper-thin. In Scottish Ghost Stories, renowned paranormal investigator and author Elliott O'Donnell delves into chilling tales of the supernatural drawn from the haunted history and rich folklore of the Scottish Highlands and beyond. This gripping collection gathers eerie accounts of vengeful spectres, mysterious apparitions, cursed lairds, phantom pipers, and ghostly women in white. Each story, told with O'Donnell's trademark blend of vivid narrative and investigative curiosity, transports readers into encounters where shadow and silence conceal secrets of centuries past. More than mere folklore, these tales are woven with cultural insight and historical texture-bringing to life the uniquely Scottish atmosphere of superstition, legend, and second sight. O'Donnell doesn't simply relay ghost stories; he explores them, often drawing on eyewitness reports and his own experiences as a noted ghost hunter. Whether you are a lover of the macabre, a student of the paranormal, or a curious traveller of haunted lands, Scottish Ghost Stories offers an unforgettable journey into the heart of Scotland's spectral legacy. Read it by candlelight... if you dare.

Great in its own way

I got Scottish Ghost Stories ten years ago whilst on vacation in Scotland and it continues to prove an interesting read. It's a collection of 12 different stories with a couple of great illustrations by Tim Hunt for each. The stories range from those about hidden rooms at Glamis Castle to glowing ladies in the night and scary dark cellars. At least half of the stories are excellent, although they're all quite readable but one or two do drag a little. Many of the stories are those which the author has heard from others or are contributions. They all seem to have the same style though, ..., they're still great to read. The style of writing could prove a little '1940s English' for some, but most books by older authors are like this.
