As the undisputed King of Ragtime Writers," Scott Joplin (1868--1917) composed many of the best-loved and most popular compositions of the ragtime era. His works include not only classic rags, but marches, waltzes, and cakewalks of incredible beauty that have stood the test of time. This book features Joplin's complete works for piano, in their original editions. Produced in cooperation with the New York Public Library, this comprehensive sheet music collection also includes an introduction by Vera Brodsky Lawrence and an historical essay by noted ragtime scholar Rudi Blesh. This 376-page book features lay-flat binding designed to stay open on a piano music rack."
This publication of Joplin's rags really is tasteful, beautiful and comprehensive in its presentation. The inclusion of opening writings and artwork throughout are very appreciated, and add nice cultural and historical context. Makes the book a heavy one, but it's absolutely worth it.
Binding seems solid so far and stays open better than a lot of sheet music books I've had before, though I recommend finding a way to lean the score back slightly if possible to make the pages extra flat (I can do this with my own setup no problem).
If you're eager to break into playing Joplin's legendary work, and don't want to be concerned about your favorite pieces not being included, I highly recommend going with this anthology. This book will always have a home on my piano and book shelf.
Also, it was shipped promptly and arrived earlier than expected, and in excellent condition.
Thanks!
