In this issue, we are pleased to share a series of wonderful articles. Jonathan Post examines Henry Vaughan's poems in the light of movement and walking and places his poetry in the context of this tradition, one that includes other writers, such as Henry David Thoreau and Robert Frost. Elizabeth Siberry documents and demonstrates how nineteenth century Welsh readers exhibited a deeper understanding and wider appreciation for Henry Vaughan's poetry than we have thought. Mai Matsumoto explores how Vaughan employs the operation of magnetic power as a representation of his wider range of religious beliefs, such as when he describes the resurrection of the body. Jonathan Naumann traces the influence of Christian Platonism broadly, and Boethius' Consolation of Philosophy in particular, on Vaughan's poetic sensibility. It is an abiding interest of Scintilla to explore the people and texts that surround the Vaughan brothers and their milieu. To that end, Sean McDowell explores George Herbert's ongoing effort to redeem the sonnet from the service of secular love and explore other emotions and purposes beyond those predominating in the Petrarchan mode. Finally, Vicki Kay introduces our readers to Lady Brilliana Harley, whose life and letters capture the complexity and the calamities that define England's Civil War period.
