Between 1976 and 1986 Asbj rn "Ozzie" Sollien - Bachelor of Science in zoology from the University of Trondheim, Norway, wrote 12 articles about birds in ornithological and zoological periodicals, as well as self-publishing a 78 page booklet about the birds in his home municipality, Grue in Hedmark County, spanning the period from 1885 to 1976. Some of the articles reviewed the population status, trend and seasonal movement of the Northern goshawk in Norway during the previous 100 years, the population status and trend of the rare falcon Hobby in Norway, the occurrence of the Asian bird Mandarin duck in Norway, and the first time the breeding of the Three-toed woodpecker had been researched in Europe from before the nest was excavated until the juveniles left. The observations at the nest covered 300 hours over 52 days. Other articles handled the occurrence of rare water fowl using the wetlands of Grue Municipality during their autumn migration, a lake protected as a bird sanctuary due to the initiative from Asbj rn and two of his friends, and the birds on a rare type of bog protected through the international project TELMA. In the book the original articles are scanned (All except one in Norwegian, most with English summary, and most of the figures and tables with English text), there is a story accompanying each article about how it came to be, and many pictures of the birds concerned. Original pictures, newspaper clippings and interviews are also included from the busy days of ornithological research and conservation of nature in the 1970s.......
