Science and technology studies (STS) is an interdisciplinary that seeks to understand the entanglements of knowledge, practice, power, authority, and societies. Science is the effort to discover and increase human understanding of how the physical world works. Technology uses this information to design goods, services, and processes in order to fulfill human needs. Science and Technology in Society plays a key role in shaping science and technology to influence research priorities, the conduct of research, the ethics guidelines related to that research, the process by which new technologies are adapted and diffused into society, policy decisions associated with innovation adoption and regulation.
Because of the constant social interaction, advances in science and technology are continuously contextualized to society over time. 2 Ancient societies drew upon knowledge as a way of coping with life, making tools for farming, building and speaking. The development of systematic inquiry and experimentation during the Scientific Revolution led to a rapid transformation in scientific knowledge, which in turn prepared the way for innovations that revolutionized economies, healthcare, and daily living. Science and technology in the Philippines have developed even despite of the numerous obstacles during the earliest of times as well as to the present that have made it seem as if it was impossible for Philippine-based science and technology to do well.
