This is presented by David Kyle Johnson in several episodes. Unfortunately, “The Great Courses” is getting out of the DVD market. I have several shelves of “The Great Courses,” but this critter was watched from the local library on Hoopla.
The program follows the title. Each episode picks different Sci-Fi movies and ties them to the philosophy that they reflect on. During the lecture, you are encouraged to view the movie before the discussion. This is an excellent idea. I have over half a century of viewing under my belt. Still, if available, it is a good idea to view the movie again for the newcomers before the discussion.
Many a time, David Kyle Johnson is right on target and gives ideas for further thought. Sometimes he is so black and white that he misses other possibilities.
Also, there are many philosophers' names thrown out there. I have read most of them, but I get surprised by others. Looks like time to fill in the background.
You can not cover an immense number of movies in a finite lecture. But I missed “World on a Wire”.
The bottom line is that you will now have to see all those movies again in a new way.
