I am a personal property appraiser and I buy an updated version of this book every year. Why? There are approximately 450 people on the advisory board and a list of contributors in the back (with addresses and telephone numbers). I have found the information contained reliable. These people are experts in their respective fields who lecture and write on their subject. I have found them to be very helpful. I only call on them in unusual situations. While this information is not detailed enough to actually use for appraisals, it usually gets me headed in the right direction.

The Antique Price Guide I look in first to research anything

I have hundreds of price guides on specific subjects, but this is my favorite book for researching general items. They also feature items I can't find in other price guides. They give enough background about the company or item that I get a better understanding of what I'm trying to price. If I only buy one new general price guide a year this is the one I buy. I've been a part-time antique dealer and collector for 25 years. I feel any price guide I buy is worth the price if it helps me with one item I am researching and trying to find the value of. This one pays for itself many times over each year. Be sure to keep all your back issues because sometimes they cover something in depth one year and after a year or two drop it in favor of a new emerging collectible.
