Cass Lumetto's new boyfriend is behind bars. She's left her life in Manhattan to move to Canon City, Colorado, to be near him. To win his heart. To earn his trust. He was convicted of one murder. Now Cass wants to prove that he got away with another - killing her college roommate. Cass thinks she's tough enough to handle it. Cass is dead wrong . . .
This is the second Lucy Taylor book I have read. What initially caught my attention was the dark, brooding cover. I am not usually a fan of "noir" thrillers, but this author has gotten me totally hooked on her stuff. The main character "Cass" is a wonderfuln mixture of likeable and not so likeable. The story is set in a somewhat dark area "prison, good vs bad religion, sex" and the author intermingles all of her characters wonderfully.Perhaps the ending was a bit contrived, but that absolutely does not remove from the story that got you there.BUY THIS BOOK

Her closest friend Raven is dead and the police don't have a clue who killed her. Raven's father thinks Raven's former boyfriend Jack O'Doul murdered her since he dated her before the state of Colorado convicted him of killing his wife. Jack is now serving time in the Canon City penitentiary.Cass, a journalist, is being paid by Raven's father to get close to Jack to see if he will say something incriminating to her. They begin by writing letters and when enough time lapses Cass moves to Canon City to get close to Jack. Cass feels guilty for lying to Jack and her instincts go into overdrive when little things don't add up. She's has good instincts even though they can get her killed if she trusts the wrong person.Lucy Taylor has written an edgy character driven thriller in which most of the characters has something to hide. The protagonist gets into a gray ethical area and she knows it but that doesn't stop her from seeking answers to gain closure for herself and her friend's family. Readers will be shocked by the climax though clues are in your face, they are complex to "read" in time to find the answer.Harriet Klausner
