Hope is the author's youngest granddaughter. She was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma on September 11, 2001. Neuroblastoma is a cancer that usually develops in or around the adrenal glands. It's made up of immature nerve cells. Hope's mom and dad (the author's son) were tasked with learning all about this disease and caring for Hope as she fought for her life. They were told how the doctors were going to cure her, but she never was able to, as they say, "go by the book." There were many incidents that created undue stress and cause for concern for her whole family. As to how the time went on and how the fight ended is quite a trip. Saving Hope is the factual account of Hope's horrendous fight to live and how it affected her family as seen through the eyes of her PopPop.
