Sasha the Silly

Sasha The Silly By: Marjorie Weinman SharmatIllustrated by Janet SevensPublisher: Holiday House              This fabulous picture book, Sasha The Silly, is a funny fiction book about a basset hound named Sasha, who is very concerned about her appearance. She admires her red eyes, her drooping ears, her fantastically long nails, and her magnificent wet nose. Every day Sasha goes to the salon where Rolf the Rhino curls her hair, and polishes her nails. One day, Sasha sees that she is not looking her best, so she runs to Rolf complaining to him that her ears are too long. After Rolf washes her fur, and puts up her ears, Sasha is thrilled with her new hair do, although it looks ridiculous. Sasha walks up and down the streets showing off her new hair. Sasha asks the friends that she sees how she looks, and they all say that her hair looks terrible. Later that day Sasha's parents call, telling her that they were coming to visit. Sasha wants to look her best for her mother and father, so she goes to Rolf telling him to decorate her tail. Sasha thinks her tail looks fantastic, but once again it looks silly. The next day when her parents come to visit, Sasha realizes the importance of being herself.            The main characters in this book are Sasha, who is a conceded basset Hound. Rolf the Rhino is Sasha's hairdresser, and is sophisticated and judgmental. Other main characters are Mother Basset hound, and Father Basset Hound, who are both lovable, and sweet.           I highly recommend this book, Sasha The Silly, because it is funny and fantastic, and if you like dogs, especially Basset hounds, then you will definitely love this story. Read this great book to find how Sasha The Silly learns to be herself.
