Sarah's Irony is the history of an African American family in rural Wake County, North Carolina using not only historical records but stories deemed worthy of being passed down from generation to generation.The stories, many of which feature an ironic twist, show the ways in which the family was affected by major events in American history. The stories also show how African religious practices and Christianity are intricately intertwined in the family's ancestry. All of the stories in this work are based upon actual events; however, many of the details provided are reflections of how the author imagined the events as she heard the stories told by various family members-the way her ancestors were feeling, what they were thinking, the expressions on their faces; what they were wearing, their physical surroundings, and even the aromas that permeated the air.
