A Positive and Beautiful Review of a Horrible Event

What I love about this book is that Derwood Lane finds the good, beautiful, and amazing things about every person involved in the situation. He goes about finding the details of the storm, not as a detached reporter, but as a loving member of the community, who wanted not only the truth, but also healing. He did a great service to those of us who have ties to the Saragosa and Balmorhea areas. He has recorded not only the facts, but also the feelings of this disaster, something that continues to affect the community and its members, even over 20 years later. After reading the book, I shared it with various family members and friends, who never knew the book had been published after the tornado. We are all grateful to Mr. Lane for his work in preserving the information in the way that he did.
He was upset too

My name is Reuben D. Lane and this book is by my dad. He loved that little town and was VERY close to many students and parents there in Saragosa, Texas. He wrote this book to try to capture is feelings, and to record events that happened to him in a very personal way. And to put it quite bluntly, he took this event very hard. This also was written as a kind of personal journey and journal, quest, and theraputic endeavor. He used to say "No event is complete until you write about it." And that he did indeed do ... thus this book.
