Learn creative new ways to help children think and discover on their own. With over 70 sand and water table ideas, children develop problem-solving skills by applying knowledge, facts, and techniques... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I borrowed this from our town library and liked it very much; was surprised to see a negative review. It is true, not all the activities involve sand and water though there are quite a few that do. The table becomes a vehicle for many different sensory play activities: some involve filling the table with snow for example. There are some great ideas that were new to me, as well as some classics (like the sand castle page). Even the familiar activities were interesting to read about because the authors provide a few ideas for adding to the educational value of the play by suggesting questions to ask the children. Most of the materials needed for the activities are readily available and inexpensive to purchase, and prep time is minimal (that's been a problem for a lot of other activity books I've looked at). I am not a preschool teacher, just a mom who is interested in educational play activities; I think this book is very worthwhile for both parents and educators.
Just another opinion

I do not own this book but I attend the University where the Professors who wrote the book teach Early Childhood Education college students and even preschool students in the college preschool. I attended a seminar where both of the authors presented their book. This is a book designed to provide ideas for the use of Sand and Water tables. This is probably not something the average mom would own, but something that Preschools, and Kindergarten through 1st grade teachers should own. It gives ideas for stimulating creative thinking, imagination, learning, and language skills through the use of Sand and Water Tables. The book does include other ideas for preschool children also. Just because the other reviewer didn't realize it was for Sand and Water tables doesn't make it any less effective for what the authors wrote it for. I have looked at this book and plan to purchase it myself as soon as I either start teaching first grade or have children of my own. I do recommend it and the authors other book "Literacy Play."
