Growing up in a small verdant town within the kingdom of Eltolix, Maya Samoralt has seen the dragon-riders often. At temple ceremonies and at town festivals, alongside dragons with jade scales, teal feathers, and yellow eyes like the sun. She is determined to join their ranks. So when at the age of 15 she is admitted to dragon-rider school, she grinds and she scrapes, sacrificing blood and sweat in a grueling attempt to win a dragon bond.
