Samuel Owens The Pig Boy

Samuel Owens was born with a facial deformity remarkably resembling the likeness of a pig. Through out his life that uniqueness would make him the focus of attention and the beneficiary of relentless abuse. Born in a motel cabin in Livermore Falls, Maine he is raised on a pig farm in South Portland. The farm is sold and arrangements are made for him to enlist in the Army. Through confusion he ends up in the Navy. Constantly under abuse he make friends with "Hammer" a black, street wise guy, from Harlem, who takes Samuel under his wing. Samuel excels beyond expectations and captures the hearts of his ship mates as well as high ranking officers. Assigned to the USS Gunther in Newport he is assigned to number 1 fire-room. Daringly he saves the crew and the Gunther from certain disaster. Seriously injured he is taken to the Naval Hospital in Newport. Alone Samuel becomes distressed, dejected and heartbroken. Discharged from the Navy he begins employment at a Newport Mansion where he becomes the subject of intolerable abuse and scorn.
