As a child of a gambler, Ember grows up needing her father but he cannot be there for her because, instead, he needs the lotto. Ember does not know what a father's love is like so she seeks love elsewhere.When she meets her first love, Joseph, Ember knows it instantly. She is young and in love. Ember and Joseph experience problems in their relationship due to others getting involved. They try to make it work but they both begin to grow apart. Ember spends most of the rest of her life looking for the same kind of love; chasing it like a drug. Instead, she finds cheaters, abusers, drug addicts, and self-centered guys. Everyone wants to know how someone so smart in other areas of her life could be so stupid when it comes to relationships with men.
