Samatya: An Egyptian Woman Among the Children of Israel (Second Edition)

Reviewed by Steve Leshin for Readers' Favorite: -"Samatya: An Egyptian Woman Among the Children of Israel by Mohamed Adly is an original and interesting take on the story of the Exodus from Egypt at the time of Moses. It is the story of Samatya, the young and beautiful wife of Hori, a poor young Egyptian man. They live in a small house on the banks of the river Nile. The house is filled with the happiness of the young lovers, a house that Hori built himself. The future looks hopeful for them until events occur that turn their joy to turmoil. As the rest of the story unfolds, a series of unfortunate events leads to trials for all the characters until their fates intersect with the story of Moses leading the children of Israel out of Egypt.Samatya: An Egyptian Woman Among the Children of Israel by Mohamed Adly is told in straightforward language that the reader can easily follow. Moses is a figure in the background of the story. It is really the story of Samatya, Hori, Malissa and Rachel and their journey to discover what they really believe. A story with a religious theme is often difficult to tell. The plot of the story has a lot of potential, and it kept my interest to read it to the end. That the story is important to the author is evident in the telling of the tale. How they find their true beliefs amid the events leading to the Exodus is inspiring as well to those familiar with the biblical story. Fans of biblical and historical fiction will enjoy this book." - Steve Leshin.
